You should be using the line level outputs instead. Why are you using the headphone outputs on the reel to reel tape deck ? The analog to digital converters sound really good in the ZOOM R16. You can use it as a stand alone recorder, then, export the wavįiles into REAPER for processing and mixing.
It can serve as an interface to record directly into REAPER. They are reasonably priced and they sound great. I think you might be able to rent one cheap. So I guess the preferred method would be to get an audio interface such as a Steinberg CI1, send my reel to reel outputs to the the analog inputs and then the USB out into the laptop and not bother with the mic input?
